Biniam Girmay has abandoned the Giro d'Italia. The Intermarché-Wanty was a victim of two rough crashes in a matter of minutes, and will not reach the finale of stage 4.
It was with 68 and then 62 kilometers to go that Girmay hit the deck. First, he was part of a mass crash that also included important GC riders such as Ben O'Connor and Einer Rubio. The Eritrean needed several minutes to get going once again as he complained with hip pain.
He resumed the race however and was racing down the hill by himself. However there were no mercy from the Italian roads, Girmay crashed once again and this time around the decision was made within the Belgian team for him to end his Giro right away.
