2024 has just begun and it is too early to draw any conclusions, but if we stop to analyze what happened during January and the days so far in February, Movistar Team's performance is not to be taken lightly.
The truth is that the only great result of the Movistar Team to date is the victory of Pelayo Sanchez in the Pollença Trophy in a race in which the Asturian was the second option behind Alex Aranburu who had to abandon.
Beyond that, a third and a fourth for Aranburu and a fourth for Davide Cimolai are the top results of the Spanish team in this beginning of the year in which a lot is being said about Iván Romeo.
Nothing at all in the first WorldTour race of the year, the Tour Down Under, in which Ivan Guerreiro was only 14th overall. Last year the Portuguese won the overall of the AlUla Tour. This year Davide Formolo went as leader to the Arabian lands and could not get better than sixth place in the GC.
As we say, the year has just begun and there is no reason to worry, but seeing Iván García Cortina unable to make top 10 in any stage of a race like the Tour Down Under should make those who plan the year reconsider.
On the positive side, Pelayo Sánchez, who already showed a very good level with Burgos in the last Vuelta, has shown that he is a rider with quality who should have opportunities. Oier Lazkano, with a couple of good performances in Valencia, is an exciting rider for the Classics season.
Finally, to highlight an Iván Romeo who seems to move well in all terrains and who at 20 years old has a great margin for improvement and who looks like he will be much more than a good rider. Very good impression in the AlUla Tour and in the Trofeo Serra Tramuntana. We have to take care of this guy.
