For the second time Derek Gee has finished second in a stage of the 2023 Giro d'Italia. This time he was much closer than on the stage in which Ben Healy was a comfortable winner. He finished second to Magnus Cort after an attack with a km to go in which he couldn't get past the Dane and Alessandro de Marchi.
"This one hurts a bit more," he told Eurosport after the race. "I knew he was too fast, I tried something with 2km to go but it couldn't be. I'm surprised we were able to beat the peloton, the descent was very technical but I still can't believe we did it."
