Just days after Mads Pedersen, Magnus Cort has also completed his Grand Slam and won stages in the Giro d'Italia, Tour de France and Vuelta a España.
It didn't matter to Cort that EF Education-EasyPost rider achieved it after his compatriot, he was delighted with the victory after a very tough stage. "I am very happy with the victory, for me it is more important to do it than to be the first. It has been incredible to achieve it in one of the toughest stages that I have ridden on a bicycle. The wind and the water, it was incredible, there was a lot of confusion We didn't know what was going on."
He confessed that he did not have much information during the race due to a problem with his radio and in part due to that and in part due to the horrendous weather conditions that have continued to have an effect on this year's edition of the Giro d'Italia, it has been one of the hardest stages of his career as a professional. Radio or no radio, Cort was able to outsprint Derek Gee and Alessandro De Marchi to achieve victory.
"My radio didn't work, I didn't have much information, I fought all day, first to get into the escape and then to try to get to the top of the climb, we bought time, but not enough, so they chased us to the end and we kept fighting. I don't remember a stage like this. Fighting throughout the 5 hours, it was very hard, a very tough stage."
