Magnus Cort is a stage winner at the
Giro d'Italia. For
Alessandro de Marchi it is another missed opportunity. In his first breakaway attempt, he was swallowed up by the peloton 200 meters from the finish line and this time he was unable to beat the Dane, finishing third in the stage.
In an emotional post-stage interview the 36-year-old broke down when revealing his disappointment at once again coming close but ultimately missing out on adding a Giro d'Italia stage win to his palmares.
"It's frustrating, but tomorrow morning I'll try again," said the
Team Jayco AlUla rider post-race. "I'd like to try it a little less and get it right the first time but here's the story. I don't want to sound pathetic but every once in a while it might happen. I'm proud that I said I was going to do something and I got it, I think it's a great thing in this cycling."
