Denmark will apply to host the 2029 Road World Championships. Roskilde, a city of just over 50 thousand inhabitants near the Denmark's capital, Copenhagen, has confirmed the rumor that has been circulating for some time now.
The local municipality has in fact issued a statement certifying its participation in the initiative promoted by the Danish Cycling Federation, which aims to bring together several cities, as well as Copenhagen. The decision comes in the wake of what is a golden period for cycling in the country.
"We will take part in the bid to host the 2029 World Cup," confirms the mayor of Roskilde, Tomas Breddam. "The decision was approved by the municipality's Finance Committee and has great political support. We have already felt great emotions and joy in hosting the Tour de France in 2022 and with the 2029 World Championships we will be able to create another true celebration of the people, with our city as the backdrop."
Breddam adds: "The decision comes following the Federation's proposal to join the group that is working on the candidacy, a proposal which also brought with it the possibility of being one of the starting cities for the races. All this comes in the wake of the work we are doing to organize events to be included in the WorldTour calendar for the 2025, 2026 and 2027 seasons."
