"I thought I would do much better" - Pauline Ferrand-Prévot looks back at World Championships disappointment

Pauline Ferrand-Prévot has given a very remarkable explanation for her withdrawal from the World Championships in Zurich. The Frenchwoman started as one of the shadow favorites, but soon knew that it was not going to work out and abandoned the race halfway through.

"I ate far too much," she tells Cyclism'Actu. "I wanted to prepare for the competition, but my stomach couldn’t digest anything anymore. That’s why I ended up throwing up and I knew that nothing was possible anymore," she continues. "I have mixed feelings about this competition. I thought I would do much better."

"But yes, on the other hand, it's been a long time since I last raced on the road. Even in training I hardly ever do these distances, so it's logical that it will take a while before I really get back in shape. In any case, it ensures that I'm motivated for the winter."

The 32-year-old Ferrand-Prévot made her comeback on the road this weekend after almost three years. In the coming years, the comeback of the French woman will take shape at Visma | Lease a Bike, where she will try to win the Tour de France Femmes.
