Out of all the three Ardennes classics, Amstel Gold Race is perhaps the one least suited to the strengths of Groupama - FDJ. However, with the hilly terrain which will be tackled, the French team have several cards, specially in David Gaudu and Valentin Madouas.
Madouas has not been performing this spring at the same level that he's shown good legs at the E3 Saxo Classic. With the decisive splits set to be made in the short and steep ascents the Frenchman will be a suited contender for the Dutch race. David Gaudu, second at Paris-Nice and fourth at the recent Itzulia Basque Country could also prove dangerous in the steeper climbs.
Groupama have several cards to play, with Lars van den Berg being the only true domestique at the start line. Rudy Molard, Kévin Geniets, Quentin Pacher and young talent Roman Gre´goire are all, on their best legs, possibly contenders for a result here. The amount of quality riders will be important for the French team in a race that is often attacked from far.
Groupama - FDJ for Amstel Gold Race:
David Gaudu, Quentin Pacher, Roman Grégoire, Valentin Madouas, Kévin Geniets, Rudy Molard and Lars van den Berg.
