Out of all the three Ardennes classics,
Amstel Gold Race is perhaps the one least suited to the strengths of
Groupama - FDJ. However, with the hilly terrain which will be tackled, the French team have several cards, specially in
David Gaudu and
Valentin Madouas.
Madouas has not been performing this spring at the same level that he's shown good legs at the E3 Saxo Classic. With the decisive splits set to be made in the short and steep ascents the Frenchman will be a suited contender for the Dutch race.
David Gaudu, second at Paris-Nice and fourth at the recent Itzulia Basque Country could also prove dangerous in the steeper climbs.
