Tadej Pogacar has won the World Championships this Sunday in Zurich and it will take no time for him to debut the new rainbow jersey. The UAE Team Emirates rider will race for the first time with his new equipment at the Giro dell'Emilia this Sunday as he prepares for Il Lombardia.
“This period of the year is always one of my favourites for racing and it will be even more special now with the World Champions jersey on my back," Pogacar said in a press release. "What happened in Zurich was a dream for me. Whatever happens from here on is a plus but given the amazing season we’ve had as a team we want to push right until the last race and end on a high note. These end of year classics in Italy are beautiful, exciting races and we’re ready to give them a good shot.”
Pogacar has raced to second twice in the Italian one-day race over the past two years, beaten by Enric Mas and Primoz Roglic respectively. Hence he will have a tough time trying to win the very reputable classic this Saturday where he will face none other than Remco Evenepoel, Richard Carapaz, the two riders mentioned above and a whole array of other talented climbers in what is set to be one of the most exciting races of the season.
He will be there with a good part of the team that will then support him in his bid to win a fourth consecutive Il Lombardia, his final big goal of the season. Pogacar will, inbetween the two, also race Tre Valli Varesine with preparation in mind. His rainbow jersey is set to be revealed anytime between this Thursday and Friday; he is currently at home in Monaco recovering from last week's effort.
