Quinten Hermans was born on July 29, 1995 in Turnhout, Belgium. Through his specialization, he has successfully ridden various cycling disciplines, being successful in hilly and tough terrain on the road. Hermans currently races for the Alpecin-Deceuninck team.
However, in cyclocross, where Hermans began to show his talent as a cyclist, he had to compete against
Mathieu van der Poel in the juniors, taking several second places -
2012-2013 , for example, he finished in 2nd place in 11 out of 17 races. This has continued within the under-23 ranks with Telenet-Fidea, although in his first 2 he also had
Michael Vanthourenhout,
Laurens Sweeck,
Toon Aerts and
Wout van Aert in the mix. In
2015-2016 he picked up his first victories at the under-23 level, including the European Championships in Huijbergen, the Koppenbergcross and the World Cup of Hoogerheide, finished 2nd in the World Cup and Superprestige Cups and won the Bpost Bank Trophy.
In 2016-2017, his last year as an under-23 rider, he won the Superprestige Cup under-23 and finished 2nd in the World Cup. This year he became European champion again and also won the Belgian national title in his category, while winning 9 races throughout the year. 2017-2018 was his first full Elite season, he quickly achieved his first podium in the World Cup in Iowa City. His first win in the category came at the Swiss EDZ CrossTour Meilen. In 2018-2019, he won the Trek Cup Race and finished in the Top 5 of the World Cup, Superprestige and EKZ CrossTour.
In 2019-2020, he took his first Belgian victory in Beringen. He also won the IKO Cyclocross - Essen. He finished 5th in the Superprestige Cup and 6th in the World Cup, transferring to the Tormans XC Team at the beginning of 2020. In 2020-2021, Hermans rode another full season, winning the Cross Eeklo, riding to 5th place at the World Cup and the X2O Bathrooms Trophy. In 2021-2022, he finished 4th at the World Cup and Superprestige, while taking his first World Cup victory in Fayetteville, USA, in a muddy race. He had a consistent season, finishing outside the Top 10 only once and 2nd at the European Championship on the Col du VAM. In 2022-2023, Hermans won the Kermiscross Ardooie.
On the road, Hermans also rode for the Telenet Fidea Lions from 2014 to 2019 , where he focused on CX but also had a road calendar during the summer with the continental outfit. Only in 2018 did he break through with stage wins in the Oberösterreichrundahrt and a second place in the Tour de Wallonie. In 2019 , he rode to victory in Flèche du Sud, winning three consecutive stages and capturing the GC. He also finished 3rd in Dwars door het Hageland and 7th in the Tour de Wallonie.
In 2020 , he joined Circus - Wanty Gobert (later Intermarché - Wanty - Gobert Matériaux). In 2020 he completed only one race day, but in 2021 he focused on the road calendar with the Intermarché team that was now part of the World Tour. He finished 20th in the Amstel Gold Race, 14th in Flèche Wallone and made his debut in the Giro d'Italia, which he completed with a 5th place in stage 15. He also finished 6th in the Tour de Wallonie.
In
2022 , Hermans came out of nowhere and caused a big surprise in Liège-Bastogne-Liège. Far from being a contender, he rode under the radar and was dropped in the final climbs. However, when
Remco Evenepoel rode to victory, Hermans managed to create a gap to the chasing group and beat Wout van Aert in a sprint to 2nd place. Hermans won the queen stage in the Baloise Belgium Tour in the summer where he finished 3rd. He also performed strongly in the hilly stages of the Tour of Poland and rode to 3rd place in the BEMER Cyclassics, a World Tour race where he was part of the winning attack. He has signed with rival Alpecin-Deceuninck until 2023 where he will continue his dual schedule.
He began the 2022-2023 cyclocross season with a bang, winning the Kermiscross Ardooie. That ended up being the highlight of his season, he took a mid-season rest before returning to the Christmas block, where he finished all his races inside the Top 10 but couldn't grab another triumph. It was ultimately preparation for the road season. His goal was the Ardennes Classics, but things didn't work out like the spring before when he struggled to find his best form. He finished third in the Antwerp Port Epic, sixth at the gravel world championships later in the season and also made his debut in the Tour de France.
In the winter Hermans raced a few Cyclocross races but without notable results. In 2024 Hermans won his first World Tour race as he won stage 3 of Itzulia Basque Country in a sprint finish. At the Giro d'Italia he came close to winning stage 12 from a breakaway; at the Vuelta a España he was even closer as he finished stage 11 in second place; and at the end of the year Hermans finished third at the Gravel World Championships.
