Second last year, in Wollongong, Christophe Laporte is heading into the World Championships with big ambitions. Laporte will be one of the protected riders on the French side and, according to the bookmakers, he is one of the 7-8 favorites to seek this title in Glasgow.
"Favorite is a big word, I think I'm more of an outsider. But we'll see on Sunday, the feelings are good, I feel good since leaving the Tour," says the Jumbo-Visma rider. "We have several protected riders, we have a quality group, we do not have THE favorite, but we have several outsiders."
"We had some of the most beautiful courses in the World Championships," he said. "It's not ideal, but it's still a World Championship, there's a rainbow jersey to get. It's a fairly atypical course, I'm not sure we'll have a lot of fun to race there. It's going to be quite tiring and difficult, especially mentally, you're going to have to stay focused. There's not going to be any moment of respite, with turns every 50 seconds, even less. So it's going to be very difficult to apprehend."
