"If a contract is not respected, a lawsuit ensues" - Patrick Lefevere gives threatening response to Remco Evenepoel's father

Remco Evenepoel's father Patrick sent the whole of Belgium into a frenzy with his comments - on the eve of the World Championship road race no less - regarding the likelihood of his son leaving the Soudal - Quick-Step set up.

Now, Patrick Lefevere has responded and as those who are well aware of the Soudal - Quick-Step boss might expect, he hasn't held back. "It's stupid of him. One week Remco says the rumours are 'bullshit', the next week his father declares the opposite," rages Lefevere in an interview with VTM. "The Evenepoel family should get the violins right.”

Patrick Evenepoel's comments regarding his son's future plans and whether or not they align with Soudal - Quick-Step have seemingly riled up a proper sense of fury within the always-outspoken Lefevere. Never one to keep his cards to himself, the 68-year-old is even threatening Evenepoel senior with legal action.

"The consequences of a possible departure will be incalculable for both him and for us," he threatens menacingly. "I wouldn't want to be in his shoes. If a contract is not respected, a lawsuit ensues. Since it is always forbidden to change teams if you are still under contract somewhere and you do not agree with the three parties, he can be suspended if the UCI plays the role it is supposed to play.”
