Canyon//SRAM's Shari Bossuyt tests positive for Letrozole, same substance which saw Toon Aerts suspended

Bad news have hit the spotlight this morning in the women's peloton, Canyon//SRAM's Shari Bossuyt has been revealed that have tested positive for the substance Letrozole and has been suspended from racing.

"We have a clear zero-tolerance stance towards doping in sport, team manager Ronny Lauke said in a press release. "We are in contact with Shari and her manager and await the decision on the AFLD (French Anti-Doping Agency, ed.). Shari and her manager will hold a press conference in Belgium on Monday, 5 June at 10:00CEST".

Letrozole is a substance used to battle breast cancer, it blocks an enzyme responsible for a key step in the formation of estrogens which can boost the natural levels of testosterone by preventing its breakdown, and is not known to be in any dietary supplement that may contaminate a sample.

This has been the substance which cyclocross rider Toon Aerts has tested positive for last year, which has since put his career on hold. Bossuyt has been one of the uprising riders in the peloton, the 22-year old won a stage at the Tour de Normandie Féminin this year and it was on anti-doping control during the French race on the 19th of March that the substance was identified.

For the time being the Belgian rider is "provisionally non-active" with the team, who now waits for decisions from the authorities before deciding on how to proceed.
