Caleb Ewan has returned to the peloton after having missed the classics period he had been pointed towards, and has done so with great success as he went on to take the win in the initial stage of the Tour of Turkey.

Despite being far from pan-flat, it was a day for the fast men. Despite some attacks in the final 30 rolling kilometers, Alpecin-Fenix and Lotto Soudal controlled the race in favour of their leaders which would end up fighting for the win at the end. Lotto delivered Ewan to the first spot where he launched his sprint and never again could be passed as the Australian kept his speed to the line, beating Jasper Philipsen and Kaden Groves.
