Though the race ended in victory for her Lidl-Trek team at the Trofeo Alfredo Binda, with Elisa Balsamo taking the win, Brodie Chapman was furious after the race, as she was left with a DNF next to her name on the results sheet after being forced to abandon the race due to dangerous conditions on the course.
She took to Twitter after the race in a post captioned ‘do better Trofeo Binda’, as she called out the race organisers, as she wrote that ‘on the weekend riders who were out of the front group less than a few minutes back with one and a half laps to go were confronted with open roads, oncoming traffic, passing cars, red lights and busy roundabouts’.
After the race, there seemed to be little remorse from the race organisers, as according to Chapman ‘we were forced to stop the race and rewarded with a DNF. The organisation responded and said they were considering the athletes who could score UCI points and stopped the riders who wouldn’t get back to the front group’.
‘So only the lead group gets to have closed roads and finish races now? What about the riders who worked hard at the front for the first 100km to contribute to the outcome of the race?’ Chapman asked rhetorically.
The Australian rider concluded her open letter to the race organisers by stating that ‘we love your race, but we don’t want to risk our lives competing in it’.
