Laura Kenny retires from professional cycling ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris

Dame Laura Kenny, Great Britain’s most decorated female Olympian, has retired from professional cycling at the age of 31 years old ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

She had been preparing to race at her fourth Olympics this summer, but after British Cycling performance director Stephen Park recently said that Kenny had a “slim chance” of racing, she has now decided to step away from the sport.

In an interview with the BBC, Kenny commented on why she made the decision to stop now, as she said “I always knew deep down I would know when the right time was. I have had an absolute blast but now is the time for me to hang that bike up”.

Kenny won five gold medals and one silver medal across the Omnium, Team Pursuit and Madison in her three participations at the Olympics, along with seven World Championship titles, fourteen European Championship titles and two Commonwealth Games gold medals.
