Michel Wuyts warns "teams such as UAE and BORA won't allow Jasper Philipsen to go for the green in the Tour de France and Classics such as Paris-Roubaix"

After his stunning victory at Milano-Sanremo last weekend, Jasper Philipsen's services are in higher demand than ever before and with his contract at Alpecin-Deceuninck finishing at the end of 2024, he could be on the move.

However, Belgian cycling expert Michel Wuyts, has warned Philipsen the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence. "I obviously don't doubt for a second that Van der Poel and Philipsen are a royal couple. If they stay together, they will help each other a lot. Apart from that, the environment in which Philipsen gets the best opportunities remains the most important thing. Where can he pursue and make his dreams come true?" Wuyts questions on the 'Wuyts & Vlaeminck' podcast for HLN.

"I think he'd better stay with the Roodhooft brothers," Wuyts assesses, clear in his mind that Philipsen's chances would diminish if he moves teams. "I doubt whether teams such as UAE and BORA will allow Philipsen to continue to go for the green in the Tour de France and for the classics such as Paris-Roubaix.”

“With his track record, Jasper Philipsen already has the allure to set conditions. In the meantime, he can really demand to have a team built around him for certain races," adds former Team Visma | Lease a Bike rider, Nathan van Hooydonck. "At BORA, for example, they don't really have anyone for the classics at the moment. So that would be a possibility for Philipsen. But, it is true what Michel says, at Alpecin he has everything he needs and as a rider you have to appreciate that.”
