Brandon McNulty wins Faun-Ardèche Classic with impressive solo attack

The UAE Team Emirates rider has kept his early-season form to net another high-quality win in a field that included Primoz Roglic and Julian Alaphilippe at the Faun-Ardèche Classic. Brandon McNulty took advantage of the internal battle between Jumbo-Visma and Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team to run away with the win.

With an uphill start in Guilherand-Granges. Only three riders made an early move and resisted the advancing peloton, they were Bruno Armirail (Groupama - FDJ), Jérémy Cabot (TotalEnergies) and Mathias le Turnier (Team U Nantes Atlantique). Understandably, Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team and Jumbo-Visma took the helm of the peloton to control the race.

With 28 kilometers to go Primoz Roglic attacked on the final passage over the Mur du Cornas. Julian Alaphilippe came to the front and attacked afterwards.

With teams having several numbers, they started to play strategical afterwards. Over the top Brandon McNulty, Mauri Vansevenant, Clement Champoussin and Sepp Kuss took the head of the race catching up with Armirail. At Saint-Romain-de-Lerps, the final long climb of the day McNulty attacked the group and got a gap. With the Roglic/Alaphilippe group loosing time and gaining riders, it soon became evident the American was running away with the win.

Brandon McNulty took full advantage of the Jumbo/Quick-Step dispute to run away with his second win of the season, one where he has been a protagonist on virtually every race he's started. Mauri Vansevenant finished second beating Sepp Kuss in the sprint who finished third.
