Ireland start the World Championships close to home, on Scottish roads Ben Healy finds himself as a contender for a very strong result, as the race follows a route that seems to be very well suited to the EF Education-EasyPost rider.
“This course suits me. I think aggressive racing will be rewarded today. That is also the way I like to race. Maybe the favorites will wait too long today. In any case, it will be an open course and I will certainly try," the Irishman promised. And with good reason, most of his success this year has came from early attacks, the 22-year old has a big engine and an incredible aerodynamic stance among pro riders.
Healy has not only relied on that this season however, his ability to climb short ascents very well saw him ride to second on Amstel Gold Race, fourth at Liège-Bastogne-Liège and a stage win at the Giro d'Italia - among other victories he's took this year. The circuit that will be tackled in the streets of Glasgow will be suiting to his abilities.
“This is really something completely different from all the other competitions this year. It is a race where anything can happen," he says, well knowing that an outsider win could well be in favour to a rider like him. "It's hard to pick one because a lot of guys can win today."
