Ben Healy stormed to a second place at Amstel Gold Race which made him turn many heads. Finishing only behind Tadej Pogacar the Irishman saw himself jump into the highest level in the sport, and heading into Liège-Bastogne-Liège he promises more attacks.
"Being hyper-attacking during the race has always been my only way of racing, I don't know how else to do it. “I like to start from afar, try to test all my opponents and see where it takes me. I'm not afraid to lose," Healy told L'Équipe. The Irishman is incredibly strong aerodynamically, a perfect fit for solo attacks as is defending champion Remco Evenepoel. The weather conditions and hilly route do not prevent long-range attackers from succeeding, with Evenepoel and Bob Jungels recently succeeding at La Doyenne with such moves.
EF Education-EasyPost come in with Neilson Powless and Esteban Chaves as cards to play for mainly in the climbs, giving more freedom for the 22-year old to have a free card and try to surprise and use the team's numbers. He comes in as an outsider for the race however a rider who has proven to be quite dangerous in this kind of course.
To Het Nieuwsblad, the Irishman added that "I also want to be on the podium in Liège, but I notice that the top riders are starting to keep an eye on me." After his performances over the past week and a half he wouldn't be able to catch a distracted peloton.
