Annemiek van Vleuten in Kenya and succeeding with charity work for local tribes

Annemiek van Vleuten is currently enjoying her off-season in Kenya, visiting the lands of the Masai tribe. Just a week ago, she helped to raise money to buy bicycles for young Masai children.

Her fundraising totalled €17,000, of which half went to the Bikes4Masai foundation founded by Carlos Verona and his wife, Esther Casasola. The charity’s aim is to enable children to have a chance at an education. Annemiek van Vleuten has joined the couple in helping them deliver bicycles to the Masai tribe.

By delivering bicycles, she intends to give the children a means of transportation since schools are located far from the villages. "They now sometimes have to walk 20 kilometres to school. We try to buy bicycles for them so that they do go to school,” said van Vleuten.
