Alexandre Geniez has received a four-month suspended prison sentence over the practice of domestic violence. The TotalEnergies rider will be allowed to keep racing despite the conviction.
This wednesday the Frenchman was sentenced in his home city of Rodez over domestic violence claims by his ex-partner, who has presented evidence against Geniez such as medical reports of hematomas on her head and forearm, alongside an audio recording which had Geniez say "You will understand, you will see what will happen to you."
Geniez and Lucie Garrigues were married from 2013 to 2020 and had two children.
For the time being, there has not been a statement from TotalEnergies who have been under fire on social media for not taking a stance against their rider. He was sentenced to a fine of €1 which understandably has caused more stir, and is until further indications, allowed to keep his normal racing schedule.
The 33-year old is a three-time Grand Tour stage winner and has recently won two stages at the Tour of Rwanda on what is set to be his final season in the peloton.
