Albert Philipsen is considered the jewel among the already very highly rated 2006 class. But there's no wonder the Dane stands out among others because he holds rainbow jersey on road and mountain bike. When you add to the mix that Albert won the European ITT title as well, there's no wonder all the big WorldTour team were fighting over the 17-year-old wonderkid.
Despite serious offers from even bigger names, Philipsen chose to kick off his professional career in 2025 with Lidl-Trek. "I am very happy with the team. They support me very well, both at the training camp and in the cross country. That is very nice," he explains to In de Leiderstrui.
In the American team, he'll meet with Mads Pedersen and Mattias Skjelmose. "It's really cool to be able to race with some of your idols. They are among the best Danish riders in the world and I look forward to that, but it is super cool. They give me good tips and tricks to improve, and for me it was also an important element in choosing Lidl-Trek," says the youngster honestly."
"I'm still trying to find that out. At the moment I would like to go for the classics, but in the future I don't think it would be bad to try to go for a classification. And I also want to continue mountain biking. Not as many competitions as I have done in recent years, but I would love to go to the Games in 2028. That is a future ambition of mine, perhaps then I will be more of the Tom Pidcock type in terms of program."
