The Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes are being presented this morning in Paris and we have got the stars assembled in Paris. The women's peloton has learnt the 9 stages they will face next year and it is a route with plenty features to be excited about - but no time-trials involved, surprisingly.
We have got a Grand Depart in Bretagne with stage 1 featuring a hilltop finish in Plumelec which will suit the classics riders and climbers. Stage 2 to Quimper will be similarly hilly with an explosive finale; whilst stages 3 and 4 to Angers and Poitiers will be well suited to the sprinters whilst the win can also make the GC fight quite tense. Stage 5 to Guéret features a downhill finish after a relatively hilly day; whilst stage 6 begins in Clermont-Ferrand and features some mountainous terrain before reaching Ambert.
The race truly gets harder as it progresses, with stage 7 seeing the riders arrive in the Alps. It won't be the hardest, but the ascent of the Col du Granier and downhill finale into Chambéry will open things up. The queen stage will come the next day with a summit finish on the mythical Col du Madeleine and 3500 meters of climbing. The final day of the race sees the riders conclude in Châtel, a tricky mountainous day with a flat finale but three difficult and steep ascents include the Col du Joux-Plane.
