Lotte Kopecky is the new Belgian scratch champion. The freshly 28-year-old cyclist won the Belgian Championship ahead of Katrijn De Clercq and Lani Wittevrongel. The victory is extra special for Kopecky, because she celebrates her 28th birthday on Friday.
Kopecky won the scratch after a strong final sprint. Luca Vierstraete tried to take victory two laps from the end, but was outflanked by Kopecky. De Clercq and Wittevrongel were in the wheel, but could not pass the road world champion.
The scratch is the first part of the Belgian Track Cycling Championships. The points race for both men and women, as well as the team race for men, are also on the program on Friday.
