Kevin Quintero is one of the great stars of track cycling and current keirin world champion. His main goal at the moment is the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
In an interview with the
AS newspaper, he talked about what it means to him to be at the top of the sport: "Being world champion has been quite a long journey. I have enjoyed it from the beginning to where I am now. I started very early, when I was 8 or 9 years old."
"My grandmother used to take me to my first training sessions and then I started to move towards the track. Now it is what I dedicate myself to and what I love to do day by day." On the race he ran and which ended up leading him to the gold medal, he commented as follows:
"The speed part didn't go well for me. I had to make some changes at the end of the preparation to race. I went out a bit off the pace, but then I got myself back on track, got calm again and I think I did the keirin in the best way."
Goal, Paris 2024: "The expectations are high. It is a competition that we have dreamed of, that we have worked hard for. We are already preparing and thinking about the Olympic Games, so all this (the Champions League, ed.) is helping us to prepare. We are testing to see what details we can fine-tune, how we can improve and thus obtain the great title that I think all athletes dream of".
