Rohan Dennis appeared back in the Adelaide District Court on Wednesday, October 30. The former professional cyclist is accused of causing the death of his wife Melissa Hoskins by dangerous driving. However, the lawyer for the 34-year-old Australian requested the judge to postpone the case. Again. Dennis is due back in court on December 10, 2024.
Dennis was due to appear in court for the first time in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on 13 March. Prosecutors asked the court for more time so they could carefully reconstruct the incident in detail. The request was granted by extending Dennis' bail for a further seven months at the time.
This meant that the former professional had to appear in court again on 6 August. When he appeared in court again in early August, he requested a twelve-week postponement in order to prepare his plea. The court agreed to this and so the next hearing was on Wednesday 30 October. However, at this hearing, another postponement was requested, this time for six weeks, so that negotiations with the prosecutors could continue.
The next hearing is now scheduled for December 10. Should Dennis be found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving, careless/inaccurate driving and endangering human life, the Australian could face a maximum sentence of fifteen years in prison.
