It will be possible to see Vincenzo Nibali pedaling again in Italy. During the last Giro d'Italia the Sicilian had announced that 2022 would be his last year in the peloton, but he never got off the bike. In addition to becoming an ambassador of the Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team, the 38-year old has decided to devote himself to mountain biking by competing in some races around the world, including the famous Cape Epic.
"Yes, for me the bike is life, and I still enjoy it, even if it's no longer my job," declared the winner of two editions of the Corsa Rosa, "and in particular I like mountain bike, which I have always practiced as a diversion 'training', even in winter. I participated in all’Isola d’Elba and this year at the Cape Epic in South Africa. Why? I continue to attend mtb because I enjoy it: a discipline that always requires to remain focused, have a great technique and always push hard."
The next commitment for the Messina will be the BMW Hero Südtirol Dolomites, scheduled for Saturday 17 June in the mountains that have often seen him create beautiful masterpieces on a road bike.
Speaking of the dolomitic race he added: “I've always heard of it, and I know that in addition to being very beautiful, it's quite demanding. Aru told me about it as a very, very hard test. I know the ascents and descents of the Dolomites well, even if doing them on asphalt is not the same thing as riding them on a mountain bike."
