This Friday afternoon, former pro rider
Robert Gesink announced through
Instagram the passing of his wife Daisy. Team Visma | Lease a Bike have payed a tribute to Daisy Gesink, and the cycling world has united to support the Dutchman.
Gesink wrote in an emotional post: "You will live in our hearts forever. Thank you for all the love you gave us, for your beautiful smile that lit up every room. It breaks my heart that we have to go on without you, but above all, I’m so proud to be your husband." Over social media, there have been lots of tributes and condolences sent from fans and other teams.
Residents in Andorra, the couple had two children and was part of the large professional cyclist community in the area. "Daisy was a friend to many at TBV. Our thoughts are with Robert, the family, & you all," the Bahrain - Victorious team responded to Visma's post on X, making it quite evident how much the family meant in the small European nation.
The Dutch team, in which Gesink spent his entire career, shared a strong message of support: "Today, joy and sorrow are closely intertwined. The entire team is deeply saddened by the passing of Daisy, the wife of Robert Gesink. Our thoughts are with all her loved ones in this difficult time and ride with Daisy and the family in our hearts".
