The 2025
Giro d'Italia will be won by
Simon Yates tomorrow in Rome officially, after the Team Visma | Lease a Bike rider put in the performance of his life to drop and distance
Isaac del Toro and
Richard Carapaz on the mythical Colle delle Finestre - and the final ascent to Sestrière.
The overall classification looked like it was going to be battled between the Mexican and Ecuadorian in the final competitive stage, after Yates lost time at both stages 17 and 19. However today, with a brutal steep ascent to the Finestre, the early attacks of Carapaz that exploded the peloton didn't bring the desired result.
After a stalemate in the chase, Yates' gap grew exponentially. In the final standings, Simon Yates has taken over the pink jersey with a lead of a whole 3:56 minutes over Del Toro, whilst Richard Carapaz fell to third 4:43 minutes behind. The GC remained relatively unchanged with the exception of Giulio Pellizzari who overtook Egan Bernal for sixth place; and Brandon McNulty who overtook Michael Storer to enter the final Top10. Derek Gee, Damiano Caruso and Einer Rubio successfully defended their respective positions in the Top10 as well. Max Poole and Adam Yates have finished just outside the Top10.
