Remco Evenepoel's medical report: "He was in a lot of pain from the second fall, has a large hematoma and sacral problems".

Remco Evenepoel suffered two crashes yesterday during the fifth stage of the Giro d'Italia. The first, caused by a dog, seems to have had no major consequences. From the second, less than 3 kilometers from the finish line, it seems that some injuries have to be extracted.

According to Soudal Quick-Step doctor Toon Cruyt, the Belgian rider suffers pain on the right side of his body due to the blow he took against the asphalt. Nothing serious, but we'll have to see how he feels during the sixth stage: "From the second fall he had a lot of pain on his right side," the team shared.

"He has a big hematoma and a muscle contraction there, problems with the sacrum. But, fortunately, with a good massage, osteopathic treatment and a good night's rest it will get better. We'll see tomorrow morning."

The Belgian has appeared very frustrated after his second crash. He has not lost time on the day due to the crash being inside the final 3 kilometers, however the physical damage will be felt. Alongside him other GC riders such as Primoz Roglic and Domenico Pozzovivo hit the deck in a crash-marred stage, whilst Jay Vine lost over a minute having been caught up in two crashes towards the end.
