Tom Pidcock will choose MTB over road at World Championships in Glasgow

Tom Pidcock confirms that he'd rather ride Mountain Bike race at 2023 World Championships in Glasgow than a road race. The Olympic Champion immediately proved his worth in his first MTB World Cup race in Nove Mesto, dominating the race.

"It is currently the intention that Tom will only do mountain biking in Glasgow. But that decision is not final. A lot will depend on how he comes out of the Tour," INEOS Grenadiers sports director Kurt Bogaerts told Het Nieuwsblad.

"Mountain biking is something Tom really likes to do. He gets a lot of mental energy out of it. He is an outdoorsman and really enjoys being in an environment like Chur or Nove Mesto. He really lives on that," explains Bogaerts. "That's why he regularly takes a World Cup with him. Those races are intensive training days, without you having to look at the power meter."

But first Tour de Suisse and Tour de France are on the program. Without GC ambitions. "He is in good shape, but certainly not top. It is still too early to make statements about his role in the Tour. For that we first have to wait for the selection. We have a very wide range. We have to see which plan we set up in the Tour and what role Tom can play in it."
