It took no time for Wout van Aert to get back in action with a win. The Jumbo-Visma rider took the opportunity against a modest field to take a victory in Essen by a large margin.
The start of the race proved to be relatively tricky for the Belgian rider, who visibly had some difficulties in the technical and muddy sections that the riders faced. He was soon part of a small group that formed over the first few laps of the race but was visibly riding under control.
On lap 4 he made his move and was not matched. The front group split to completion, Jens Adams and Thijs Aerts continued to race towards the front and the race continued like that all the way into it's finale. The Belgian has quickly returned to his winning ways, and will now take on a training camp with Jumbo-Visma before returning to competition in late December.
