The
Parkcross Maldegem saw
Michael Vanthourenhout beat
Laurens Sweeck in a sprint, gaining his seventh victory of the current season.
The majority of the race saw a close contest between
Eli Iserbyt and Sweeck.“Ryan Kamp and I had to bite to stay in the wheel with them. It is not easy when those men open their throttle,” he told Het Nieuwsblad.
In the final lap, Sweeck was in front, but the Belgian champion caught him off guard. “In the end, I had to give everything to be the first to use that last part of sand. That worked, and I was also the first to pull into the last straight line.”
He was fifth at Hoogerheide, however, this victory can act as a remedy. “The World Championship was good, but not great. There will be another very important cross on Saturday. In Middelkerke, I try to keep my second place in the Superprestige, and then some nice races follow. So the season is definitely not over yet,” concluded Vanthourenhout.
