"In consultation with Toon Claes and team doctor Jan Mathieu, I decided to undergo knee surgery in the week after the X2O Trofee [race] in Brussels. I've been struggling with knee problems with long efforts for a while. Last winter I spared my knee from long endurance training not to overload it. If I train for more than three hours, knee pain arises," Van der Haar justified.
"Toon Claes and Jan Mathieu created a gap in the agenda to solve the problem with an operation. I am very grateful to them for the quick help, since otherwise I would have to wait a few weeks longer," the Dutchman added.
Van der Haar has had quite a successful season after returning to a level that he hadn't shown for some years. Having taken an impressive win in the
European championships as the highlight, he also won the national championships and finished runner-up in the World Championships. Besides some great consistency, he also managed to win the World Cup in Tabor back in November.
