Italian champion
Sara Casasola secured a significant milestone in her cyclocross career with a
third-place finish at the
Superprestige Overijse. At 24 years old, Casasola
achieved her first podium in a Superprestige event, a result that left her
feeling both satisfied and motivated for the challenges ahead.
“I felt strong on the climbs,” said Casasola in her
post-race interview with
Wielerflits. “On the last lap I made too many
mistakes and the candle went out a bit. But yeah, I’m still happy with my
podium. It’s my first podium in a Superprestige race, so I’m really happy. I
know the importance of this race, it’s a race with a lot of history and it’s
one of my favourite courses. So I really wanted to get a good result. I’m really
happy with how it went.”
Casasola’s success is not just a personal achievement; it's
a triumph for her team as well. “This is great for the team and for me. They
believed in me and I am happy that I can repay them with this result,” the
Italian rider explained.
Looking ahead, Casasola has a busy schedule, with her next
races set to push her even further. She will line up at the Koppenbergcross
next Friday before heading to the European Championships in Pontevedra just two
days later. “After that I will focus more on the World Cups and the
Superprestige ranking of course,” she confirmed, highlighting her commitment to
securing more top results in the future.
For Casasola, the third-place finish at Overijse is not just
a podium; it's a stepping stone in her journey to establish herself among the
top competitors in
cyclocross, showcasing her potential to challenge the best
in the sport.
