Eli Iserbyt was a favourite but was forced to abandon the European Championships this Sunday in Namur, having pain in the left side of his body following a bad move inside the first lap of the race.
There were worries that the pain - which is not unusual to the Belgian - could continue, or that a chronic health issue would be revealed that would prevent him from continuing his successful season. Iserbyt is currently the leader of both World Cup and Superprestige, aswell as sitting second in the X2O Trofee.
This Wednesday Iserbyt underwent an MRI Scan in order to try and diagnose a possible health issue, but the results have came out positive for the Pauwels Sauzen-Bingoal rider. "Check-ups found the case of ongoing nerve pains in Eli's left leg, but with extra exercises and physio treatments he can continue his season," the team said.
Iserbyt will hence continue on his scheduled race plan, having the second round of the Superprestige in Niel this Friday as a return race - and the Beekse Bergen World Cup round later in the weekend. “Because I can't structurally make the injury worse, and because I just love CX!” he justified.
