Cyclocross' 'big three' to face Laurens Sweeck: "He will want to go into battle with them"

Laurens Sweeck has moved away from Pauwels Sauzen - Bingoal this season and into Crelan - Fristads, with his motivation and performance rising as he has now captured the last two World Cup races.

“In the road races this summer, Laurens showed more motivation and better fitness than ever before," Stefan Sweeck, Laurens' father, told Sporza. "Part of that had to do with the prospect of a new team. Furthermore, Laurens has also become aware that there is much more to him than had come out in the past two years. That is why he worked even harder and more disciplined in the summer, which pays off."

Although he's started off his season consistently, he has turned that into wins recently, also winning the Superprestige Niel round, having taken the lead in the cup. He also currently sits second to Eli Iserbyt in the World Cup, only 4 points behind his former teammate.

“He has an apartment in Mallorca, which was an important investment. In the middle of the week, Laurens goes there to train on his own. All those things together ensure that the puzzle falls into place," Sweeck's father explains.

This weekend has seen the return of World Champion Tom Pidcock to Cyclocross, and in the coming weeks so will Mathieu van der Poel and Wout van Aert. “I have the impression that Laurens is very positive about their arrival. He will want to go into battle with them and not just give up, I think," he concluded.
