Tom Pidcock raced his first cyclocross today in Superprestige Merksplas. He struggled a bit and finished seventh.
"It was a little tough," said Pidcock in post race interview. He continues, "It was maybe not the best cross to start with. In the corners I lost so much time. My level was okay, but I lost a lot of time and places in the corners. I think it was a bit of a Laurens Sweeck show today."
He had been chasing Sweeck in the opening lap, but slipped back in the next lap, finishing seventh. The result is satisfactory for Pidcock. "I fell because of a mistake, I just had too many mistakes. But I'm happy, it wasn't that bad. I haven't set a date to win again, but I hope to win again this season in the rainbow jersey. It's nice to wear these colors again after a few years. The crowd made it beautiful," concluded Pidcock.
