Sanne Cant has made it fifteen straight Belgian National Championship titles on a thrilling day in Meulebeke after being pushed all the way by
Laura Verdonschot.
The dominant force in Belgian women's cycling having taken the last 14 national title wins, Sanne Cant didn't get off to a great start, crashing into the barriers early on. Nevertheless, she was able to quickly recover and by the end of lap 2 was at the head of the race with Laura Verdonschot.
Cant then seemed assured of victory as she began to ride away, only for another somewhat silly crash to bring Verdonschot right back into things. Heading into the last lap the pair were locked together. On a thrilling final lap, it was Cant whose experience looked to be showing as she rode clear again. Verdonschot refused to give up however, battling back to the back wheel. A sprint finish was needed to separate them and in the end it was Cant who kept up her winning streak.
