The
Women's Tour, which had been gaining traction in the world of women's cycling, won't be taking place in June due to financial limitations, as reported by the race organiser.
"Owing to a combination of increased running costs (approximately 20% higher in comparison to the 2022 race) and a reduced level of commercial support, it has proved impossible to deliver the event that was proposed for June," SweetSpot announced on Friday morning via social media.
In an effort to address the financial deficit, SweetSpot launched a crowdfunding initiative earlier this month. However, despite the campaign raising £18,000, it was insufficient to overcome the challenge of finding a title sponsor leading to the decision not to hold the race this year.
"The Women's Tour thanks everybody who donated for their unwavering loyalty, as well as all the messages of goodwill that have been sent. A refund process, overseen by the GoFundMe platform, has begun,” read the statement.
They further informed the plan for the next edition is also being worked upon. "Organisers are already working on plans for next year's edition, which will mark the 10th anniversary of the first Women's Tour. Wales will host the event's Grand Départ for the first time as part of a long-term agreement already in place with the Welsh Government.”
