Lotte Kopecky was not far from another victory at
Omloop Het Nieuwsblad WE, but was not able to effectively deal with being outnumbered in the final of the race, and eventually found her superior in
Marianne Vos.
"We're actually at the point where I can't be happy with second place, right?" Lotte Kopecky laughs nervously in an interview with Sporza afterwards "I have done everything I can to make a difference. So I think I rode a good race, but Marianne was simply faster."
During the race, the Belgian tried several times to get rid of Marianne Vos and the two opponents from Lidl-Trek. However in the end, it was her who had to close down dangerous attack by
Elisa Longo Borghini. "Yes, that was the intention of my attack attempts. If I didn't respond, Marianne didn't respond either. Then Longo Borghini would have ridden straight to the finish."
This defeat doesn't seem to have left too deep scars on Kopecky's confidence however. "In any case, I am going to Strade Bianche with a lot of motivation. I want to give the best of myself there. I'm going to do my best to do one spot better," she concludes.
There is more depth to the Women’s elite than the media portrays, let’s hope it gets spread out between more teams soon so they can ride as REAL rivals
For SD worx, 2nd place is worthless
