“We will be linked in the next months to just about everyone who drinks a Red Bull” - BORA - hansgrohe play down links to Van Aert and Evenepoel

With Red Bull set to give their considerable financial back to the BORA - hansgrohe team, rumours have already been spreading like wildfire about who the team could sign.

The likes of Wout van Aert and Remco Evenepoel have both been mentioned but BORA - hansgrohe Sports Director, Bernhard Eisel is keen to keep such speculation to a minimum until something more concrete is in place.

“Of course it’s a big step up for the whole cycling community to see one of the big, big brands coming in,” Eisel told Velo recently. “Nothing against the sponsors we have now, but it’s just that brand name. It’s like Coca-Cola, it’s Red Bull. Just having that level is huge for cycling.”

“Maybe it will turn on some lights for some other big brands to have a look at cycling,” Eisel continues. “We are on the right path, it’s on TV all the time, everyone’s riding their bikes. This is something everyone in cycling should hope for that it becomes more mainstream.”

As mentioned though, when it comes to transfer talk, Eisel was keeping his cards close to his chest. “We are waiting. I am pretty sure I haven’t spoken to any other riders yet. We don’t really know yet what will happen yet. We are waiting for the deal to be signed off by the Austrian authorities,” he says. “From the outside, everyone will be on our shopping list. We will be linked in the next months to just about everyone who drinks a Red Bull.”

“We also have the junior team, where we find youngsters, there was already a few things happening behind the scenes with Red Bull. They were already supplying us with drinks,” Eisel concludes. “We are looking forward to what will happen. Right now, only the head management will know more.”
