Olympic gold medal winner Benjamin Thomas became the first Frenchman to win the Six Days of Ghent, alongside his Belgian teammate Fabio Van den Bossche. The duo managed to defeat the defending champion and 2024 leaders Robbe Ghys and Lindsay De Vylder in the final team race.
The Six Days of Ghent is an annual event held in Belgium, held in the Kupike velodrome, and the first edition was held all the way back in 2022.
Thomas and Van den Bossche launched an attack with 17 laps to go that shattered the peloton, and this was ultimately the winning move. Speaking after the race, Thomas said, “Winning in this mythical place means a lot. The public and the show are the big winners. This week, we were the hunters.
“Jules produced a heroic team race and put a lot of pressure on the leaders," said the Cofidis rider. "We took advantage of it. We knew we had a cartridge to use, and we fired it at the right time.”
