"We were all at such a high after the team time trial" - Oscar Onley has disappointing grand tour debut experience

Oscar Onley crashed in the Vuelta on Sunday after which he had to leave the round. In the hospital it was found what the Briton was already afraid of: a broken collarbone.

"We were all at such a high after the team time trial. Then a crash is very disappointing, but I'm looking forward to seeing the guys at work in the coming weeks. I think they have shown that the spirit is good and that the legs are good enough to achieve good results. Hopefully I can also compete again soon for short results."

In the press release, team doctor Camiel Aldershof adds: "In addition to breaking his collarbone, Oscar also has several small abrasions on his body. He will now go home to make a full recovery. Only then will we plan his return."

For Team dsm-firmenich, the Vuelta has been a grand tour of extremes so far. After winning the team time trial, the Dutch WorldTeam lost Onley and the red jersey on Sunday. Lorenzo Milesi crashed and saw Andrea Piccolo take over the leader's jersey.
