"We just need clearer regulations from the UCI regarding safety" - Matej Mohoric

Not only did the Vuelta a Espana find rule changes and controversy yesterday, so did the Renewi Tour. Perhaps overshadowed by the situation in Spain, but riders were very vocal about the dangerous finale, Matej Mohoric was disappointed with the removal of bonus seconds however.

“It is what it is. This was the most important day for the standings, but unfortunately the bonuses were gone and I end up in the same place in the standings where I was," Mohoric lamented in a post-race interview, where he'd have climbed up the GC significantly if the initial scenario was kept. "A stage win is always nice.”

The riders stopped the race shortly after finding out the conditions of the final kilometers of the stage (having passed through the finale early in the day). It was agreed that bonifications would be removed from the final sprint and green kilometer, with GC times taken at the base of the final climb. This made Mohoric's victory meaningless when it came to the GC - in which he's started 8th on the day.

With the riders in Spain also undergoing their own requests on safet, Mohoric was keen on pointing out what seems obvious in the peloton: “We just need clearer regulations from the UCI regarding safety." Nevertheless, after a stage win at the Tour de France and the GC win in the Tour de Pologne, Mohoric continues his run of success with another presitigious win.
