Cian Uijtdebroeks still has one more year left of contract with
BORA - hansgrohe but the battle on the negotiation table is already fierce. After INEOS Grenadiers and Lidl-Trek,
Jumbo-Visma are also in the run-in for the signing for the Belgian rider.
Whilst Uijtdebroeks has not commented on whether he'd leave the German team or not at the end of 2024, the signs are quite clear. He has publicly had negative things to say about team and teammates at certain point this year, although that was already internally discussed and wouldn't directly be a reason to leave. However the Belgian is extremely talented and wanted by many big teams in the peloton, and at BORA - hansgrohe it is unlikely that he will have leadership for the coming years, specially now with the signing of Primoz Roglic as the new headliner.
Ralph Denk, team manager of BORA, has already said that the team did not have the financial means of others and acknowledged that keeping Uijtdebroeks on board will be a very difficult task this upcoming winter. Winner of the Tour de l'Avenir in 2022, this year he was incredibly consistent throughout the year and finished eighth at the Vuelta a Espana. INEOS Grenadiers and Lidl-Trek have big budgets and the British team specially is looking to gather new leaders that are able to battle with UAE Team Emirates and Jumbo-Visma.
However the Dutch team itself is interested in Uijtdebroeks and that is confirmed by none other than team manager Richard Plugge, who told Het Laatste Nieuws that “we are interested in Cian. We were already like that when he was still a junior. We already spoke to him then. But he still has a contract."
