OFFICIAL: Davide Cimolai lands in Movistar Team to help Fernando Gaviria win

Movistar Team has announced the addition of Davide Cimolai to its squad for the 2024 season. The experienced Italian cyclist, with a fifteen-year career in the professional peloton, arrives to reinforce the Spanish team as of January 1, coming from Team Cofidis. He arrives as a key man for Fernando Gaviria's leadout.

Cimolai, born in Pordenone in 1989, has excelled as a skilled sprinter and fast sprinter throughout his career. Renowned for his ability to lead the sprinters and his explosiveness in stage finishes, he has amassed an impressive palmarès despite his teamwork-focused approach. With nearly a dozen victories on his record, including a stage at Paris-Nice in 2015, two stages at the Volta a Catalunya in 2016 and 2017, as well as the overall at the Vuelta a Castilla y León in 2019, his experience and quality are a valuable addition to Movistar.

In the words of Davide Cimolai, this new chapter in his career is a rejuvenation and an injection of energy after having seriously considered ending his career at the end of 2023:

"In my inner self I was happy and satisfied that my career had ended in 2023, because the last few months have been very hard from a mental point of view and I had already adopted the course of not continuing. I was only going to continue if an offer came from an important team, and with Movistar Team this is the case. It is an honor and a joy to be part of a team with this prestige, where I am sure I will find the right environment and recover the confidence and enthusiasm that I had lost.

"I join the team with the ambition to give the maximum. I am aware that I am here mainly to help Gaviria and I trust that with my support and that of the rest of the team we can achieve great victories. I especially want to thank Eusebio Unzué for this opportunity".

Cimolai joins the team with the clear objective of giving his maximum effort. Aware of his main role as support for the sprinter Fernando Gaviria, he is convinced that, together with the support of the team, they will be able to reap great successes in the coming season. He also shows his gratitude to Eusebio Unzué, team manager, for the opportunity given to him and is committed to give the best of himself in this new stage.
