The 2024 season was from ideal for INEOS Grenadiers. The team is now additionally struck by internal chaos with long-time pillars leaving the British team's ranks. But the team needs to move on. Besides rumoured structural changes, including (finally) setting up a development team, the team also welcomes new staff members for 2025 season.
Former Sky/Ineos riders Kurt Asle Arvesen and Leonardo Basso (Sport Director) will take on the roles of lead sports director and sports director respectively. The Norwegian was present to the birth of Team Sky in early 2010s and most recently worked as DS at Uno-X Mobility. Basso raced for Sky and later Ineos for four seasons before retiring last year. This season, he already got to know the ropes in INEOS in a freelancer role and from next season onwards, he takes up a full-time job.
In addition, changes in non-racing staff will happen in INEOS, who welcome Tom Helleman as Lead Performance Coach (coming over from Team dsm-firmenich PostNL), Dr. Mehdi Kordi as Head of Performance Support and Innovation (Netherlands' track National team) and Dr. Luca Oggiano as Director of Research and Development (already worked with Filippo Ganna in the past).
Scott Drawer, Performance Director, said in a press release: "I’ve spent six months listening, observing, and working with the team to determine what's needed to set ourselves up for excellence for 2025 and beyond. We have a highly motivated, hungry and ambitious team of coaches, sport directors and performance specialists who want to create an environment that allows our riders to fulfil their potential."
"We are going to spend the rest of this year making further positive changes: setting the team’s performance plans and goals, executing some key training camps and getting the whole team ready to race hard in January. We want to set the right tone from the start and will be working closely with our riders to establish the culture which will facilitate success and be fundamental to our future."
John Allert, CEO, added: "This is a team with a proud legacy of success, and we are all determined to get back to the top step of the podium. Our new performance structure and approach are key to building the next chapter for the team."
