15 years later, INEOS Grenadiers set to finally create a development team

INEOS Grenadiers has gone through the most complicated year in its history as a team lacking the results it hoped for on a sporting level and with its top star, Tom Pidcock, mired in constant rumors of departure. So, with failure and bad feeling as companions, they want to start to change things and for that they are going to start with something they should have been doing for a long time, especially considering their huge budget: it seems that they are finally going to create a development team for 2025.

Almost all WorldTour teams (excluding Movistar Team and Cofidis) have development teams that allow them to secure promising young riders, something that is becoming increasingly more important currently where riders are able to win big already in their early 20's. INEOS Grenadiers has been a team with one of the highest budgets in pro cycling for over a decade now but somehow has never developed a youth rank. In recent years this has been harmful for it's signing of talents - and has actually seen the team sign junior riders directly into it's elite ranks - such as Theodor Storm, who has not actually raced for INEOS this year but is taking up a spot in the team.

Open negotiations

According to journalist Daniel Benson INEOS is in negotiations with Team Lotto Kern-Haus PSD Bank, a German continental team, which could serve as the base for this new structure. The deal is not closed, negotiations are open. We imagine that if the agreement does not work out with this squad they will try negotiating with another team. Seeing the extreme success of development programs such as those from UAE Team Emirates and Lotto Dstny, it is a no brainer that it is a good investment.
